Also a good gauge for those small show pieces, where only a shoe box area is available in which to model. Detail can ooze from models in this gauge.

There is a huge range of chassis available. Even the most humble of Hornby 0-4-0 drive units will fit into a 7mm scale body and drive it along. As the first model you make will probably be a tram such detail as piston rods and wheels will not be exposed anyway! So choose a drive unit from that old loco that has been dropped too many times and put it to good use.

Narrow gauge locos can be built from any material that has some stiffness in it. The base must be strong though, so choose aluminum or brass if you can. Wood, card, plastic and plasticard can make up the rest. Micro bore copper pipe for the smoke and 2.5mm wire for the brass hand holds etc. Keep all those plastic 'bits' and model on!!!!!!!
